KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Kuala Lumpur British Malaysian Institute (UniKL BMI) will bear the funeral arrangement cost of Palestine lecturer, Dr Fadi M R Albatsh in Malaysia.
UniKL BMI dean, Prof Madya Dr Mohd Izhar Abu Bakar, said although there is request from the family members to bring his remains back to Gaza, the university is ready to offer assistance.
“We are on standby, whatever the decision is, we are ready to help handle Dr Fadi’s funeral.
“According to the initial plan, if Dr Fadi is buried here in Malaysia, it will be at the Batu Muda Muslim Cemetery after Asar prayer.
“Now, since the family members have requested to fly him back to Palestine, we will put the plan on hold.
“We are waiting for the arrival of Dr Fadi’s brother from Germany, who will decide to have his body buried here or to bring him back to Palestine,” he said when met at Selayang Hospital mortuary Sunday.
When asked to describe Dr Fadi, Izhar said he mixed well with other lecturers and students at the university.
He said Dr Fadi’s contract was recently renewed following his excellent work performance.
“He is very dedicated in educating his students and an expert in electrical engineering. The university is saddened by the news,” he said
