MARA And GE Malaysia Spearheading Malaysia’s Aerospace Technology Development

LANGKAWI, March 21–Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) and General Electric International Malaysia (GE Malaysia) today signed a memorandum of understanding on the collaboration of aerospace and related industries, this initiative is to strengthen Malaysia’s status as an aerospace hub for not only the ASEAN region but the world.

The Minister of Rural and Regional Development, YB Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob said that this will signifies a new cooperation between two organizations to leverage on each of their capabilities, resources, networks and knowledge to grow critical aspects of the aerospace industry in Malaysia.

The Signing and MOU Exchange event was held at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) 2017, on 21 March 2017 at 11.00am.

“This includes human capital and leadership development, business growth and sustainability, technology development, supply chain, supplier development, and innovation,” he said.

Ismail Sabri added that MARA has invested in its significant institutions to spur the aerospace industry in Malaysia. Both parties have a nationwide operational network, thus with this collaboration shall be able to accelerate the catalytic nature of our roles in the development of Malaysia’s aerospace industry.

“This MOU comes at a time when Malaysia continues to attract more aerospace activities in the region, ranging from manufacturing, maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO), engineering, design, research and development (R&D),” he said.

According to Ismail Sabri, MARA has put together all the ingredients to make Malaysia a world-class hub as the latest example is the establishment of MIAT (Malaysia Institute of Aviation Technology) as it is envisioned that the institute would be able to deliver world-class training for the global aerospace industry.

“This collaboration between MARA and GE is reflective of both parties commitment to the advancement of Malaysia’s aerospace industry,” he added.
