KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 21 — The two Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) Digital malls have created 240 job opportunities since starting operations earlier this year, the Rural and Regional Development Ministry said.

In a written answer to Datuk Abd Latiff Ahmad (Barisan Nasional-Mersing), the ministry said that the two malls, one in the MARA building in Kuala Lumpur and another in the Anggerik Mall in Shah Alam, Selangor can help achieve the target of having 30 per cent Bumiputera equity in the country by 2020.

“There are 27 entrepreneurs in the MARA Digital in the MARA building while there are 32 entrepreneurs in the MARA Digital in Anggerik Mall,” the ministry said, adding that “240 job opportunities have been created at the same time”.

Sales at the MARA Digital mall in Kuala Lumpur hit RM12.1 million in the first nine months of operation, while the Shah Alam mall recorded RM439,000 after two months of operation.

The ministry, helmed by Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, also said that the government did not fork out any investment for renovations of the two malls.

“The RM3 million investment was forked out by the anchor tenant,” it said.
