PUTRAJAYA: More than 1,000 Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) student loan borrowers have stepped forward to settle their student debts. Mara director-general Datuk Ibrahim Ahmad said more people are expected to take up the incentive offered by them in conjunction with their 50th anniversary. He said the discount is a one time offer and those who borrowed the money must pay the whole remaining sum of their loans after the discount by 31 December. “We hope through this initiative, we can get the Mara loan repayment collection moving up to 50 per cent,” he said after the Mara Perdana Convocation for Mara Technical Skills College (KKTM), Mara Skills Institute (IKM) and Mara Japan Industrial Institute (MJII) 2016, today. A total of 3,138 students from KKTM, IKM and MJII received their diploma and certificates at the two-day convocation held at Putrajaya International Convention Centre. On March 25, Mara chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa had announced that 2010 and prior year loan borrowers are entitled to a 50 per cent discount to settle the remaining sum within 2016 while an additional 20 per cent discount is added under the same initiative on April 7 benefitting 171,000 students.
