June 21, 2012 marked a history for Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Industrial Technology (UniKL MITEC) when the Minister of Rural and Regional Development (KKLW), YB Dato’ Seri Haji Mohd Shafie Haji Apdal who is also the Pro Chancellor of UniKL, officiated the 60 acres UniKL MITEC in an auspicious celebration held at Bandar Seri Alam, Johor Bahru. The ceremony was also graced by the Minister of Higher Education who is also a Parliament Member of Pasir Gudang, Y.B Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

“Being an apex of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution in Malaysia, UniKL MITEC has a vital role in steering the development of Iskandar Malaysia not only by providing the nation with skilled human capital, but also supports the government’s initiative in transforming the nation to become a high-income society by 2020.”, said YB Dato’ Seri Shafie in his officiating speech.

UniKL MITEC campus will be fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities an able to accommodate over 3,000 students studying in the fields of Quality Engineering and Industrial Logistic. Soon, it will be offering Instrumentation & Control and Facility Maintenance programmes in line with the development of Bandar Seri Alam as ‘Knowledge City’ of the South.

Also present at the ceremony were Director General of MARA, Datuk Ibrahim Ahmad, UniKL Chairman, YB Datuk Dr. Adham Baba, Deputy Secretary General (Socioeconomy) Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, Dato’ Haji Yusoff Dohab and UniKL President, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Abdul Hakim Juri.
