The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers has awarded a Cardiff School of Engineering postgraduate student one of ten worldwide scholarships. Zulhazmi A Mokhti joins students based in China, USA, Italy and Belgium in receiving the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S) award.
Zulhazmi is pursuing his Master’s Degree in Wireless & Microwave Communication Engineering here at Cardiff School of Engineering. He previously gained valuable industrial experience working on new product introductions of spectrum analysers and EMI receivers for Agilent Technologies in his hometown of Penang, Malaysia. Zulhazmi received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Vanderbilt University in 1999 with a summa cum laude honour.
His MSc, entitled ‘Integration of Agilent PNA-X Vector Network Analyser for Power Amplifier Non-Linear Characterisation and Load Pull Analysis in the Centre of High Frequency Engineering’, looks at RF Microwave measurement systems and efficient RF power amplifier design. He is mentored by Dr Jonathan Lees, a Lecturer in Non-Linear Microwave Characterisation based in the School’s Centre of High Frequency Engineering.
IEEE and MTT-S awards are an expression of recognition for outstanding contributions to the area of electrical and electronics engineering, and the scholarships serve to encourage undergraduate and postgraduate students to study and pursue a career in the microwave and RF discipline.
The IEEE-MTT scholarship will fund a trip to the MTT-S, the world’s top international microwave conference, and will also provide Zulhazmi with financial assistance in continuing his studies.
